Alice Munro who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013,was the 13th female literature laureate in history. She was honored with the Canadian Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction, after the publication of her first short-story collection Dance of the Happy Shades in 1968,Concerning Munro studies, literary critics mainly focus on thematic studies, stylistic studies, narrative studies, feminist studies, textual analysis, and cultural studies. While several critics have commented upon Munro’s ecological or ecofeminist thought, few have explored how it is revealed in her early short stories from Dance of the Happy Shades. The thesis studies short stories from Dance of the Happy Shades from the perspective of ecofeminism, revealing the predicaments of nature and women, especially of the exploited animals and the marginalized places, looking at the relationship between women and society, between women and themselves and criticizing the logic of domination which is the main reason for the subjugation of women and nature. It also shows Munro’s aspiration for reconstructing human society in harmony with nature,as well as developing women’s self-consciousness.Through the textual analysis based on ecofeminism,it is expected to explore Munro ’s pursuit of the interdependent relationships of all existence and harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature, which will help to build a harmonious society and maintain ecological balance and sustainable development, make beneficial contributions to women’s liberation and environmental protection, and provide references for related research, national and international.
