| The generation, development and evolution of the double verb form have been the focus of academic attention in recent decades, and the research results are relatively rich. But at the same time,we also noticed that many previous researchers’ understanding and interpretation of this issue can be said to be different in different degrees, and there is no lack of room for further discussion in some links. Therefore,we believe that it is still very necessary to investigate related problems. This paper, with the reduplication of verbs in modern Chinese as the research object, mainly discusses the evolution of the reduplication of verbs in modern Chinese as well as the causes and processes of its evolution,in the hope of contributing to the research in this field. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, explaining the origin of the topic, the research object, the research summary and the corpus of the research on the evolution of modern Chinese verb overlap,so as to do the basic work for the following research. The second part is to investigate the form and evolution of the overlapping verbs in modern Chinese. The third part is to investigate the semantics and evolution of the overlapping verbs in modern Chinese. The fourth part is to study the reason and process of the overlapping form and semantic evolution of modern Chinese verbs. The fifth part is the conclusion. From a formal point of view, modern Chinese verb overlap has undergone a process from simplified to complex. From the initial “VV” and “V 一 V” forms, the “V了(一)V” and “VO(一)V” type and so on.The internal structure of the verb overlapping form has also changed. At the beginning of the emergence of the "VV" and“V 一 V” forms, their internal structures were “verb + verb” and “verb + one + verb quantifier”.The “一” in the “V 一 V” form began to blur in the Song Dynasty, and the internal structure first changed into a verb overlapping form. Moreover, the “一” in the“V 一 V” formula began to fall off and became the “VV” type. This “VV” type merged with the “VV” type of “verb + verb” produced in the pre-Qin period, and became the verb overlapping “VV” type. From a semantic point of view, the “VV” style originated from the pre-Qin verse, which means the infinite extension of the action in time and the infinite repetition in space. The “V 一 V” type is produced in the momentum structure in the late Tang Dynasty, which means that the action is executed once. After the "V-V" type saves the“one”,the “VV” type merges with the original “VV” type,so that the grammatical meaning of “VV” inherits the core of the original “VV” type.Development in the direction of “shrinking”.In the “V 一 V” formula, the “一” gradually becomes blurred, which can represent the meaning of “small momentum” in the concept of time and space, and gradually moves closer to the “VV” type.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the core grammatical meaning of “VV” and “V 一 V” were the same. The only difference in semantics was the pragmatic meaning. The “VV” was more random and the “V 一 V” was more rigorous. The above is the reasoning about the form of verb overlap and the process of semantic evolution.Next, this article uses the language evolution model to explain the evolution of verb overlap. In the whole model, the main reason is that the change of“commonality” changes the form and semantics of the verb overlapping form. The change of “commonness” is the development of the “V 一 V” pattern and the development of the Chinese morphological system. The influence of the “V 一 V”pattern changed the form and semantics of the verb overlap. The creation of the verbcomplement structure and the establishment of the aspect marking system changed the internal structure of the verb overlap. |
