| "Memories of Eight Watercolors" was created by Tan Dun in 1978 at the Central Conservatory of Music. This work combines Hunan folk songs, local flower and drum plays, and Xiangchu Musical Instruments. It reflects the local folk characteristics of traditional Chinese culture under the influence of Xiang Chu art and culture. The Suite is composed of eight vivid and short pieces, namely "Autumn Moon","Funny","Song of the Shepherd Boy","Melancholy nun Nun","Wilderness","Ancient Burial","Cloud" and "Solar Rain".Through the analysis of the treatment of the tonality and acoustics of the music, combined with the author’s perception of performance, this paper makes a detailed analysis of the suite, absorbs its essence, and deeply comprehends the ethnic characteristics of Xiangchu culture shown by the work, which is used for study and introduction. |
