| Pierre Bourdieu crosses many disciplines and fields such as sociology,anthropology and pedagogy,and he is a famous sociologist,thinker and critic of cultural theory in contemporary France.Under the background of interdisciplinary research,Bourdieu’s theory of cultural consumption is scattered in a series of his works of cultural sociology and sociological aesthetics,which can be regarded as the expansion and extension of his ideas of sociology,anthropology,pedagogy,linguistics in the field of literature and art.This paper makes comprehensive use of the method of combining theory with practice,interdisciplinary research and case study,based on the perspective of Bourdieu’s reflective sociology,which has the character of realistic concern,this paper systematically combs Bourdieu’s thought of cultural consumption,and analyzes the viewpoint of cultural consumption symbolization,compartmentalization and mediaization in Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory,summarizes Bourdieu’s research methods,tools and experience,examines the contemporary value of his cultural consumption theory,and provides reference for Chinese cultural consumption research and cultural consumption practice.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the paper from five parts of the discussion.The first chapter focuses on Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory research path.Bourdieu has always regarded himself as a stranger in the academic circles,which is closely related to his life experience,because what he saw and heard in the intellectual world made him well aware of the operation of legitimate culture and symbolic power.He tried to expose symbolic violence from cultural consumption.Starting with Bourdieu’s academic life,this chapter sums up the new meaning of cultural consumption,traces the theoretical origin,and combs the important concepts of capital,habitus,field and the complex relationship between concepts in advance before theoretical interpretation,and highlights the critical,reflective and relational dimensions of Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory.The second chapter analyzes the symbolic nature of cultural consumption in Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural consumption,and mainly explores the symbolic value of legitimate culture in cultural consumption.Bourdieu believes that the three kinds of cultural capital in the state of physicalization,objectification and institutionalization are closely linked,and the family background,class habitus,educational system,cultural system all affect people’s cultural consumption.The essence of cultural consumption is people’s struggle for symbolic power.The legitimate interest and legitimate language as legitimate culture reproduce symbolic power by making social members form a common misrecognition.The transfer and transformation of cultural capital in cultural consumption aggravate the inequality between social classes.The third chapter explains the cultural consumption compartmentalization in Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory,and mainly analyzes the homology between cultural consumption and social class.Bourdieu’s social investigation found that different classes of consumers according to their own total capital and structure,select different objects for cultural consumption.By highlighting their differences with consumers of other classes,seeking people with similar aesthetic tastes,they can manifest or maintain their own status in social space.Different taste judgments,life styles and body habitus of different social classes form different cultural consumption structures.Different aesthetic tastes and consumption behaviors of cultural consumers further form consumption stratification,which plays an invisible role in strengthening class distinction.The fourth chapter discusses the characteristics of cultural consumption mediaization in Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory,which mainly explaining the game relationship between cultural production field and cultural consumption field under the background of media marketization.Under the influence of the information cocoons of TV media,people are trapped in the fixed type and specific style of cultural consumption content.If this goes on in the long run,both cultural production and cultural consumption will lose vitality,and it is increasingly difficult for people to avoid the trap of symbolic violence and consumerism.Bourdieu used television media to criticize the pandering and utilization of cultural consumers’ taste by cultural producers.He tried to get rid of the interference of symbolic power in mass media and call on people to defend their cultural autonomy in cultural production and consumption.The fifth chapter is the contemporary perspective of Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory.Through summarizing Bourdieu’s theory of cultural consumption,this paper summarizes the uniqueness of his theory,and analyzes the reference value of his theory.Based on the concrete realities of contemporary China,this paper focuses on the reference significance of Bourdieu’s cultural consumption theory to Chinese cultural industry,from the position of a reflection and critique,thinking about the Industrialization of culture,circularization of cultural consumption and the relationship between consumerism and media culture,and discusses the development path of China’s cultural industry.In a word,Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural consumption presents three dimensions of criticism,reflection,relationship,and three themes of symbolization,compartmentalization and mediaization.Although Bourdieu’s theory of cultural consumption has many limitations due to time and space factors,his exposition on elucidation of cultural capital,class habitus,taste distinction,life style and symbolic power still has important theoretical value and practical significance today. |
