Philosophy solves the problems of its time.A study of Heidegger’s philosophy is of great enlightening significance for solving many problems faced by our contemporary society.Heidegger’s philosophy carries with it a poetic way of thinking. In the modern era of rapid development of industry and science and technology,Heidegger’s philosophy provides many references for the future trend of our society. In Heidegger’s philosophical thinking Nietzsche has had some important influences.Based on the two volumes of Nietzsche written by Heidegger, this thesis mainly discusses Heidegger’s research on Nietzsche’s view of art,and then points out how Heidegger goes beyond Nietzsche’s view of art,in the hope of providing some enlightenment for the spiritual thinking and future development of modern man. This thesis is divided into four chapters,in accordance with the following logic: the first three chapters mainly introduce Heidegger’s view of Nietzsche’s artistic value. The fourth and last chapter mainly discusses how Heidegger surpasses Nietzsche’s view of art,and then points out the benefits of Heidegger’s view of art in responding to contemporary social problems. The first chapter discusses the main content of Nietzsche’s philosophy of art.The first section moves from the basic condition of aesthetic intoxication to beauty; The second section enters the creator and receiver of beauty, showing Nietzsche’s perspective of creator. The third section moves further into the “form” and finally into the“formal law” of Nietzsche. The second chapter discusses the relationship between Nietzsche’s art and the will to power. The first section elaborates the will to power: firstly,it distinguishes willing from the will and shows that both embody a part of the will to power;then it shows the understanding of the will to power from the three levels of emotion, passion and feeling. Finally,it is pointed out that the fundamental characteristic of the will to power is to seek will. The second section first clarifies the relationship between art and the will to power, that is,art as the highest form of the will to power;then it shows the will to power as the essence of Nietzsche’s metaphysics, and points out the unity of the will to power, eternal return and value revaluation on a higher level of existence. Thus Nietzsche’s art is placed within his metaphysics.Chapter Three: Nietzsche’s inversion of Platonism and the result of the inversion. The first section elaborates Platonism: it first gives what is truth through the discussion of truth and the real, and then discusses Platonism’s view of truth, that is,truth can express truth better than art.The second section discusses Nietzsche’s inversion of Platonism:contrary to Platonism,Nietzsche holds that art is higher than truth, because Nietzsche views truth in terms of its value to life, that is,Nietzsche holds that art can improve the instinct and vitality of life more than truth, and is more useful than truth.Heidegger points out that Nietzsche reversed Platonism by declaring it nihilism, but he himself became the extreme and complete state of nihilism in the process of experiencing such nihilism, and became the terminator of traditional metaphysics. The fourth chapter discusses how Heidegger surpasses Nietzsche’s view of art.Section 1 discusses Heidegger’s own artistic point of view, starting from the physical properties of works, moving to the work-character of works, through the interpretation of the work-character of works namely the poetic creation, reveals how art work sets up a world and producing the earth,as well as the strife between the two,and goes further to show such strife is truth, then points out art is the generation and occurrence of truth. At the end, this thesis probes into the works concerning language that Heidegger pays the most attention to,starting from language itself and moving into poetry, revealing the purity of poetry as artistic works and the poet’s mission. The second section is about Heidegger’s reflection on Nietzsche’s view of art and Heidegger’s own view. The first sub-section introduces Heidegger’s criticism and surpassing of Nietzsche’s view of art, firstly pointing out Heidegger’s praise of Nietzsche’s contribution to his own view of art, then pointing out the existing problems in Nietzsche’s view of art.The second sub-section reveals how Heidegger’s view of art surpasses Nietzsche’s,and explains the possible direction of the development of art and philosophy in the future.
