Research On Hu Hong’s Benevolence Thought

As a well-known Confucianist in the early Southern Song Dynasty,Hu Hong directly inherited Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao’s ideology,integrated the essence of other Confucian thoughts in the Northern Song Dynasty,and created the Huxiang School.His thoughts are rich in content,and theoretically have inherited and brought into play the thoughts of Zhou lianxi,Zhang hengqu,Cheng mingdao,etc.,and to provide a reference for Zhu Xi’s thought,Zhang Shi,and Lu jiuyuan,Wang yangming.At the practical level,Hu Hong’s thought of internal saints and external kings due to his benevolence shows his realistic concern for social order and political practice and his practical characteristics throughout his thought,some of them are advanced,even for today’s social development still has important value.This article starts with the benevolence thought of Confucius and Mencius in the Pre-Qin Dynasty,clarifies Hu Hong’s inheritance of the original origin of benevolence,and combs the benevolence thought of other Confucians in Hu Hong’s era.This part includes not only the specific discussion of benevolence thought of contemporary predecessors,but also the influence of his father.On the basis of clarifying the origin of Hu Hong’s benevolence thought,this paper attempts to discuss the specific content of Hu Hong’s benevolence thought from four aspects:the specific connotation of benevolence,the specific way of seeking benevolence,the realistic function of benevolence,the historical influence and contemporary enlightenment of benevolence.This paper elaborates the specific meaning of benevolence from three aspects:"benevolence,the heart of heaven and earth","benevolence,the way of heart","human being can be benevolence,and the way is life".It is progressive layer by layer.First,it discusses the nature theory on which Hu Hong’s benevolence thought is formed,and then combs the relationship among the neutrality,heart and benevolence of his benevolence system.Hu Hong creates the ontology thought of nature,and"benevolence" plays a bridge role in connecting heaven and human beings.He discusses nature with benevolence,and discusses heart with benevolence.Only the benevolence can know the destiny of nature with all his heart.On this basis,this paper deeply explores Hu Hong ’s complete method of seeking benevolence,and further expounds Hu Hong’s thought of governing the world,which extends from his benevolence thought,including the ’inner saint’ paying attention to moral cultivation and the ’outer king’ emphasizing the rule of the world.In the last part of the article,the significance and enlightenment of Hu Hong’s benevolence are analyzed.From the perspective of Zhuzi,Nanxuan and Luwang’s inheritance and criticism of Hu Hong’s benevolence,this paper analyzes the historical influence of Hu Hong’s benevolence thought.From the perspective of paying attention to personal physical and mental cultivation and adhering to the rule of social morality and law,this paper analyzes the contemporary enlightenment of governing the world and benefiting the people.
