| Vocabulary learning is an integral part of English learning.Students’ vocabulary learning is influenced by a variety of factors.Vocabulary presentation,as the initial stage of vocabulary teaching,has received a considerable amount of attention.This research selected nine fourth-grade primary school students from an after-school learning centre as the research objects,and their vocabulary learning was investigated.Through interviews,it was observed that in the process of English vocabulary learning,students usually have issues with low learning motivation,vocabulary memorization,easily forgetting,and inability to utilize vocabulary.This research is based on the theory of constructivist,information processing theory,and elaboration theory.The vocabulary presentation approach is constantly developed on the basis of the characteristics of different vocabulary.In order to improve students’ vocabulary learning by developing vocabulary presentation techniques,the researcher adopted an action research and went through the four stages of planning,action,observation,and reflection.With three vocabulary tests as quantitative data,three interviews,and teacher’s journals as qualitative data,this research aims to examine and verify the changes in students’ vocabulary learning.The research finds that presenting vocabulary by example sentences and by students making sentences will boost students’ participation and interest,improve difficulties of vocabulary memorization,as well as their ability to use vocabulary.This research has certain teaching implications.Vocabulary presentation is crucial for subsequent vocabulary mastery.Teachers can provide students with more opportunities to deepen understanding and impression of vocabulary;and encourage students to relate their previous experience to promote memorization and application. |
