Nicolas de Stael is an outstanding representative painter of the 20 th century French lyric abstract school.His works neither follow the traditional realism nor deviate from reality,but emphasize the essence of painting: formal beauty,abstract beauty and spiritual expression.The element of abstraction plays a very important role in the career of Nicolas de Stael,it is a very important part of his artistic process,and he also infuses emotion into abstraction,that is to say,from the abstraction in the image to the spirit under the surface,or the abstract expression of the artist’s subjective spirit.Through this process,the artist’s understanding of art has never changedAbstract art broke the realistic representation of the limitations of the original theme,the basic elements of art,such as style,line,color,texture elements into their own independent meaning,they are abstract together,make the abstract form,so the traditional model of art requires a recognition,new development and create a new art world.In his short and fruitful art career,De Siel has been constantly moving forward on the road of exploring art.The honor brought to him by art has been questioned at the same time.However,he did not stop his exploration of art because of this,but moved forward against the wind,fully demonstrating his persistent pursuit of art truth.This thesis attempts to analyze the personal art process of Nicolas de Stael and the emotional spirit expressed in his paintings by means of data collection and literature review.Mainly through three major aspects to elaborate: firstly,briefly introduces the concept of abstract painting and its generation;Then through the generation of lyric abstraction leads to the painter’s life,art experience and appreciation of representative works,painting form contrast and integration.Finally,through the painting concept of Nicolas de Stael to express the emotional expression of lyrical abstract painting,as well as the influence on the later generations and the core evaluation.Nicolas de Stael’s artistic thought of spiritual composition has been the focus of criticism in the art world.Based on the theory of Kandinsky,it has completed the basic demands of modern art creation from vision to spirit,and realized the transformation of modeling rules and aesthetic spirit of modern art by using two artistic forms,namely figurative and abstract.His artistic style attracted the performance of abstractionism,minimalism and many abstract painters at home and abroad,and made outstanding contributions to the trend of thought and spirit of modern art in the 20 th century.
