On The Artistic Characteristics And Practical Application Of Xu Kuang’s Black And White Woodcarving

Mr.Xu Kuang is one of the outstanding representatives of new China’s realistic printmakers.His black-and-white woodcut works not only absorb the excellent traditional culture,but also focus on the expression of their own artistic feelings based on real life.His works are full of romanticism and humanism,which combine lyricism with theme,and hold high the banner of realism with typical instant and poetic language.To explore the artistic characteristics of Mr.Xu Kuang’s black-and-white woodcut and learn from the formation and development of the artistic characteristics of his works are of great significance to our printmaking practice.In the first part of this paper,through combing and analyzing Xu Kuang’s black-and-white woodcut works,the artistic characteristics of his works are explored from the aspects of subject matter,composition form,knife technique and emotional expression.The latter part of the article focuses on my woodcut creation in the graduate period.On the basis of the combination of theory and practice,it analyzes the source of topic selection,the form of composition,the use of knife technique,emotional expression,and the reference and innovation of Xu Kuang’s black-and-white woodcut artistic characteristics.
