The author of Huyin Waishi was Ye Shaoyuan who lived in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. This book is a local chronicle about the Fenhu area written by the Ye’s during the retreat in the mountains and forests. The whole book is only more than 10,000 words, but the content is extensive, including literati anecdotes, poetry works, legendary stories and folk customs and so on.Although it is a local chronicle,it is more inclined to personal notes. The words and words permeate the sadness and melancholy of the collapse of the country and the family, which can be summarized by historical facts and narration. From the perspective of philology, this article will conduct basic analysis and research on the main content, document value, literary value, and influence of Hu Yin Wai Shi.In the structure and layout of the article, the traditional book research pattern is adopted. The full text is divided into four chapters: introduction and main text.In terms of research methods, the traditional material combing is also the mainstay, supplemented by necessary textual research.First, compare and collate the three editions of the existing Qing manuscripts, printed editions, and Zhonghua Bookstore editions, correct the errors in the current edition, and verify the place names of Fenhu on the basis of predecessors.Secondly, sort out and summarize the main content of the book Huyin Waishi, and explore the literary historical value of Huyin Waishi by studying the poetry works and folk customs recorded in the book. Most of the poems recorded in the book are isolated. It has a certain complementary value.Although Hu Yin Wai Shi is a local chronicle, its language is fresh and elegant, its characters are rich and colorful, and its content is full of legends. The author will analyze its literary value from these three aspects. Finally, from the perspective of historiography,it discusses some shortcomings of Huyin Waishi as a local chronicle,as well as the pioneering work of Fenhuzhi, and its influence on the content and style of the later Fenhu Xiaozhi and Fenhuzhi.Hu Yin Wai Shi records what the author has seen and heard in his hometown of Fenhu. The content of each chapter is short and concise, and the description is delicate. However, scholars in the past dynasties have not done enough research on the book, and most of them are just a single piece of content in the analysis book.At present, there is no journal paper or dissertation to conduct a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the content of this book. This article will sort out the content of Huyin Waishi for the first time, dig out the historical material value and supplementary value behind it as a local chronicle;explore its literary nature from the aspects of language content and so on.Take the Qing transcript as the base copy and collate it with the current version to add omissions. At the same time, with a new starting point,a longitudinal comparative study of Hu Yin Wai Shi and later Fenhu Zhi and Fenhu Xiaozhi, from the two aspects of style and content, discuss the former’s influence on the latter two,and briefly Analyze the reasons for multiple records in one place.
