Analysis On The Female Images Of D.H.Lawrence’s Women In Love And Three Translators’ Interpretation From Fusion Of Horizons

David Herbert Lawrence(D.H.Lawrence,1885-1930)is a famous British writer in the20 th century.His representative works include Lady Chatteley’s Lover,Sons and Lovers,Women in Love,etc.Among them,Women in Love is currently widely regarded as the novel that represents the turning point of Lawrence’s gender opinions.There are also a certain number of translations in China,but the relative researches are quite few leading to a research gap.This article selects three Chinese translations of the classic British author Lawrence’s famous work Women in Love,including Liang Yisan’s《恋爱中的妇女》(1986),Hei Ma’s《热恋中的女人》(1989;2020),Feng Jiqing’s《恋爱中的女人》(2015),and then conducts an analysis and comparison after careful reading of the text..The author finds that the three translators were born in similar ages,and all three translators conducted a certain degree of research on Lawrence in the 1980 s and 1990 s,especially Hei Ma and Feng Jiqing who published related researching books,but because the three translators have different perspectives,the three translations use different words to describe women in the original text,which leads to the different images of women on the whole.Therefore,the author tried to restore the female character images that translators created in this novel by considering the theory of fusion of horizons and the translator?s gender identity,thus showing different translators? interpretations of the original horizons under different gender perspectives and environmental backgrounds.As a result,this article finds that although the three translators are quite faithful to the original text meaning,they still have distinctly different horizons,thus creating different images of women.Liang Yisan’s translation leans toward a male perspective,and the female roles in it are biased toward men’s norms of women;the Hei Ma?s translation is more compromised,trying to erase the apparent gender mark in his tranlation;Feng Jiqing’s translation has a clear feminine perspective,showing complicated female images.Also,this conclusion is not intended to characterize the three translators,but just to show a new perspective to enrich the relevant research field.
