Cohen’s Defense Of Marx’s Historical Theory

As a well-known contemporary Western scholar who defended Marx’s historical theory,Cohen created an analytical Marxist school that has made outstanding contributions to defending Marxism.The thesis mainly refers to the book "Karl Marx’s Historical Theory-A Defense" to sort out Cohen’s defense for Marx’s historical theory.The introduction of this article briefly introduces the situation of Cohen and his analytical Marxist school at home and abroad,and at the same time explains the research methods and innovations of the thesis.The first chapter of the thesis introduces the background explanation of Cohen’s defense of Marx,and explains the reasons for Cohen’s defense of Marx’s historical theory from two aspects of Cohen’s era background and theoretical background.The second chapter of this article cuts into the theme,expounding Cohen’s defense of Marx’s historical theory.First,re-interpret historical materialist concepts such as productivity,production relations,economic foundations,and superstructures.Returning to Marx’s works,Cohen presents clearer concepts in the form of analytical philosophy.Cohen elaborated on the basic propositions of Marx’s historical materialism and demonstrated the "development propositions" and "primary propositions" that conform to the judgment of Marx’s social development trend.The third chapter evaluates and enlightenment of Cohen’s defense of Marx’s historical theory.The evaluation first affirmed Cohen’s analytical method used to defend Marx’s historical theory,and praised Cohen’s academic attitude of "believe but not compliment",and combed Cohen’s failure to go beyond the limitations of Marx’s historical theory.Cohen’s defense of Marx’s historical theory contributed to the rigorous and analytical research methods of theoretical work,which has inspiring significance for the study of Chinese Marxism.
