A Probe Into The Creation And Performance Techniques Of "The Rhyme Of String"

As the inspiration of the pipa music piece “The Rhyme of String”composition,the style of Jingyun Dagu-the art of narrative-singing in Beijing dialect with drum tunes-has greatly influenced the artistic presentation of “The Rhyme of String”,therefore this paper centers on introducing how this influence is presented through the use of skills for playing pipa.This paper will explore the artistic value of “The Rhyme of String” from two perspectives.First,the perspective of musical analysis.By analyzing the structure,melody,rhythm and beat of the piece to better understand the influence of Jingyun Dagu’s style on the song.Second,the perspective of musical performance.The paper discusses the changes in timbre and the application of performance technicalities through the imitation of human’s vocal tunes including flat tone,flapping tone and long tone,dasanxian(a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument),and percussion during the performance of the song.Based on his own performance practice of “The Rhyme of String”,the author will analyze the technicalities required and difficulties encountered during the performance,and then clarify the relationship between musical style and musical expression.
