A Preliminary Exploration Of The Creative Technique Of Gougalōn By Unsuk Chin

This paper is a study of the final version of Gougalōn(Scenes from a Street Theater),composed by Korean composer Unsuk Chin in 2009 and revised in 2012,focusing on the composition techniques of pitch structure,acoustic form,counterpoint technique and structure.The thesis focuses on the composition techniques of pitch structure,acoustic morphology,counterpoint and structure,and provides a preliminary summary of the compositional techniques and musical ideas presented in this work.The paper is based on a combination of textual analysis and musical examples.The first part of the thesis is divided into four sections,the first of which describes Chin’s biography and the context in which he lived,and then presents an analysis of his musical conceptions and the possibilities for the formation of his musical style.The second part focuses on the technical aspects of the composition of Gougalōn,providing a more in-depth analysis of its core material and a summary.The third section focuses on the references to Korean folk music in Gougalōn,and the fourth section concludes with a summary of the integration of Chin’s compositional techniques and her musical ideas,as well as the author’s personal views.
