Acoustic Features Of Korean Monophthongs Produced By Chinese Learners Speaking Northeastern Guanhua Dialects

Learners of Korean language firstly learn about the phonetic features of the consonants and vowels of Korean.In the learning process of Korean,it is difficult for learners to correctly acquire the phonetic features of those consonants and vowels.Furthermore,vowels are essential for the construction of syllables.If the phonetic features of vowels are acquired inaccurately,Korean learners are highly possible to meet obstacles in their communications with Korean speakers.This thesis applies the paradigm in the field of experimental phonetics and systemically analysed the acoustic features and errors of Korean monophthongs produced by Chinese learners speaking Northeastern Guanhua dialects.The participants of the present study include the Chinese learners of Korean who speak northeastern Guanhua dialects and the native Korean speakers.The formant frequencies of Korean monophthongs produced by two groups of participants are extracted from the recordings,and the vowel acoustic diagram and vowel distribution diagram are plotted according to the monophthongs’ formant frequencies.The differences between the articulatory posture of Chinese Korean learners speaking northeastern Guanhua dialects and native Korean speakers are compared and analysed with the help of acoustic data and vowel diagrams.The results demonstrate that the Korean monophthong(?)[o]produced by Chinese Korean learners is fronter than that produced by native Korean speakers and even fronter than the monophthong(?)[u].In addition,fewer differences are found between(?)[o],(?)and(?)[u]produced by Chinese Korean learners.It is also noticeable from the vowel acoustic diagram that the tongue position of vowel(?)production changes in a large scale.Besides,there is respective acoustic features of Korean monophthongs produced by male and female Chinese Korean learners.Male learners have significantly fronter and higher(?)[a]and(?)[i]than the male native speakers,and the female learners have significantly lower(?)[e]and(?)[ε]than the female native speakers.Experimental phonetics can help analyse the extent to which one’s dialect will influence the Korean monophthongs production,reveal the acoustic features of the monophthongs produced by the learners,and provide the theoretical basis for the improvement of Korean language teaching for Chinese learners speaking northeast Guanhua dialects.
