In his book "Men,Women and the Piano: A Social History," the American pianist Loesser,in discussing the special place that the piano held in European middle-class society and families when it was made and used for teaching and performance,shows that the piano was not only used for many musical occasions,but was also an expression of social dreams and styles.Taking Arthur Loesser’s book Men,Women and Pianos: A Social History as an entry point,this selection seeks to explore the relationship between German and Austrian piano culture and middle-class families in the 19 th century.It further applies a sociological approach to the interpretation of the relationship between 19 th century German-Austrian piano culture and middle-class families.The selection begins with an introduction to Loesser’s life,as well as the basic ideas of his writings and the characteristics of his writings.This is followed by a narrative analysis of the formation and characteristics of the German-Austrian middle class and the characteristics of the development of 19th-century piano culture in his writing in order to observe the basic relationship between 19th-century German-Austrian piano culture and middle-class families.Ultimately,from a sociological point of view,the social status and function of the piano as a medium and its position in the 19 th century period as one of the ways of life of the German-Austrian middle class and its position in the middle-class family,and then conclude that the 19 th century German-Austrian middle class helped to establish its social identity and shape the aesthetic concept and temperament of the middle class through the piano,and through the study,try to explain the study of music historiography The study also seeks to explain the importance of introducing sociological and sociocultural factors into the study of music history.
