The Return And Development Of Realism-Yan He(1977-1985)

In the seventh year after the founding of new China,Yan River was founded with the nourishment of Yan’an loess land and Yan River.Through the mill,Yanhe has been an influential literary periodical in Northwest China.Literary periodicals,as an important medium for literary dissemination,is the "weathervane" of the times.Since the first publication,with the most distinctive banner of realism,Yanhe has been dedicated to the cultivation of new literary talents,developed Shaanxi artistic power and nourished the profound Shaanxi literature.In this thesis,Yanhe is taken as the research object.The main purpose is to show the editors’ advocacy for realist literature and study the return and development of realism in Yanhe by the review its development from 1977 to 1985;to explore Yanhe’s outstanding contribution to literature in Northwestern China;to reflect on the limitations and deficiencies brought by Yanhe adhering to realism;to exemplify and advocate its boosting effect and unlimited value on modern and contemporary literature brought by Yanhe adhering to realism.Introduction part begins with the reasons for the subject selection,briefly describes the publication of Yanhe,and states its research status.This article will be discussed in the following five parts:renaming process of Yanhe and the literary context of the revival of realism.During the "Cultural Revolution",Yanhe was affected and ceased publication.In July 1973,it resumed publication under the name "Shaanxi Wen Yi",and later in July 1977,it resumed publication under its original name "Yanhe".The renaming of Yanhe and the resurrection of realism in the new period is not a simple independent choice,but a tacit consensus with the temporal political situation,social psychology,the Communist Party of China’s policy on literature and art,long-standing literary traditions and other authoritative publications’guidance.It results from the joint promotion of various forces related to literature and politics.Chapter 2 specifically elaborates the development of realist literature in Yanhe:from 1977 to 1978,Yanhe advocated revolutionary realism;from 1978 to 1984,Yanhe followed traditional realism;since 1985,Open realism prevailed in Yanhe.Chapter 3 focuses on the advocacy of Yanhe’s editors for realism literature.Yanhe’s editors has transformed the advocating realism ideas into practice,which gradually affects the features of Yanhe:The first section discusses how the editors of Yanhe continuously inherit the realism ideas;the second section presents the how Yanhe promotes new realism works,seeks and cultivates new authors with the mutual promotion of editors and authors;the third section analyzes how realism is penetrated and spread in Yanhe in the perspective of communication between editors and readers.Chapter 4 probes into the correspondence between the realism in Yanhe and the realism writers.In the creative process of many writers,Yanhe has played the role of "a mentor" and "a scout".In the life experiences of many Shaanxi writers,they all have an encounter with Yanhe,which is not only the encounter of their life tracks,but more importantly,Yanhe is very concerned about the improvement and breakthrough of the creation of the realist writers,and echoes the literature pursuit of the realist writers.Chapter 5 discusses the reflection on the return and development of realism in Yanhe.As a regional publication,Yanhe and Shaanxi regional literature are undoubtedly mutually reinforced,coexistent and co-prosper.When Yanhe collides with the rush of new literary trend with the persistence of realism in a new era,it inevitably appear some limitations and even a bit of regret because of its conservative attitude;but from another perspective,Yanhe has responsibility to reflect reality and form its own style to carry forward the unique sense of realism accumulated in Shaanxi as a regional symbol different from other publications.Realism is the constant deposits of Yanhe.The research of the return and development of realism of Yanhe from the 1970s to the mid-1980s will be helpful to the study of local literary periodicals and contemporary Shaanxi literature.
