This is an English to Chinese translation report of the novel Julia and the Bazooka.This material is authorized by English female writer Anna Kavan.This novel basically described the stories based on the life of the writer.Thus,it belongs to autobiographical work.The writing style is unique which is carried by subjective descriptions.The usages of words and phrases are impressive and the sentences are full of implications.Translation of literature requires to deliver the complete messages of the source text;furthermore to reproduce the writing features as well as the spirit behind the work.Translator is the bridge between writer and reader as well as the source text and the target text.The fidelity,readability,and comprehension of the translation are mainly depended on the proper use of translation methods.Hence,to understanding the source text is the key point of this task.The fusion of horizons is one of the core ideas of hermeneutics.It is said that only when the translator’s horizon is highly integrated with the writer can the translator truly understands the writer and the work,and then the translation could be faithful.On the other hand,the translation could be readable and understandable only when the horizon of translator is integrated with reader.Therefore,the translator’s horizon the result of fusion between the writer and the reader’s horizon,and plays a key role in translation.This translation practice shows:at words and phrases level,semantic expansion,free translation and transliteration have been adopted.Those methods would improve the readability of words and phrases,which could realize the fusion of horizons between writer and translator.And at sentences level,amplification and ellipsis,supplement and reconstruction are taken.They are to break the original forms of sentence in the source text and turn it to some short sentences,which is to obtain the clear and logic expression and helps to tell the core meaning of the writer in order to realize the fusion of horizons between writer and translator.It’s found that under the guidance of the fusion of horizons,the translator has acquired the comprehensive thought of the source text and reproduced the inner world of the writer.At the same time,the content of the translated version is both vivid and understandable.There is a great potential value as well as a huge space for the literary translation.And it is of great significance to study literary translation.It is also an expectation for the translator that this report would be an excellent example for the future of author’s later practice and serve for others literary translation work.
