Senior high school English teaching not only plays a key role in improving students’reading ability,but also plays an important role in promoting comprehensive language application ability.At present,in senior high school English reading teaching,teachers usually adopt the traditional method to carry out the reading teaching.When teaching reading,teachers usually translate the full text and highlight the key words and phrases.This kind of teaching method,to some extent,neglects the role of cohesion in English,which may have a negative effect on the improvement of students’ English level.Based on the current situation of English reading teaching,in order to improve student’s reading competency,the author suggests cohesion theory should be used to teach reading in senior high school.The research questions are as follows:(1)How well do senior high school students understand and make use of the cohesion theory in their English reading before and after the experiment?(2)What’s the impact of the English reading teaching guided by cohesion theory on reading grades of the senior high school students?In order to answer the two questions,88 students were chosen from two parallel classes in lingshi senior high school of Jinzhong as research subjects.Class 626 is the control class,and class 627 is the experimental class.Both of them have little difference in English level.During the 16-weeks teaching research,the control class adopted traditional reading teaching approach while experimental class adopted a new English reading teaching approach guided by cohesion theory,two research instruments tests and questionnaires are conducted to study the feasibility and effectiveness of reading teaching guided by cohesion.Finally,SPSS 23.0 is used to analyze the data collected.The research results are as follows:(1)Senior high school students have a good command of cohesion in English reading teaching guided by cohesion theory(2)English reading teaching guided by cohesion theory has a positive influence on students’ reading grades.The thesis provides some reading teaching implications for senior high school teachers:teachers should attach importance to cultivating students’ ability of analytical cohesive devices;teachers are supposed to train students’ sensibility of text cohesion;teachers should encourage students to expand their reading scope;teachers should teach genre analysis to understand the texts and structure of paragraphs.The research shows cohesion theory can be used to guide the English reading teaching.Although there are certain limitations,it is valuable for teachers and students in senior high schools. |
