| New Curriculum Standards for Full-Time Compulsory Education(2011)has changed the traditional education concept and demanded junior high school English teachers to transform their education concept,behavior and attitude in teaching.In addition,the physical and psychological characteristics and development needs of junior high school students also impose certain requirements on the teaching of junior high school English teachers.It is necessary for junior high school English teachers to stimulate their teaching motivation to adapt to the requirements of New Curriculum Standard and junior high school students’ physical and psychological development.Teaching motivation is a psychological motivation that drives teachers to actively participate in teaching activities,and has the effect of activating,maintaining and regulating teachers’ teaching behavior.The intensity and size of teaching motivation not only affects the teaching effect of teachers,but also affects the learning motivation of students.However,the current research at home and abroad mainly focus on the teaching motivation of college English teachers and the learning motivation of students,and there is little research on the teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers.Therefore,based on the requirements of New Curriculum Standard and junior high school students’ physical and psychological development,this study did research on teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers.In this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 82 English teachers from seven middle schools in Shanxi province and interviews were conducted with seven of them.Based on the theory of achievement motivation and the research of experts and scholars at home and abroad,this research investigates the current situation of English teachers’ teaching motivation in junior high schools from the three dimensions of attitude in teaching,active involvement in teaching and pressure in teaching,analyzes its influencing factors and provides some specific strategies to stimulate teachers’ teaching motivation.The research questions in this thesis are as follows:1.What is the current situation of English teachers’ teaching motivation in junior high schools?2.What are the differences of junior high school English teachers’ teaching motivation concerning their gender,age,school type,teaching experience,academic degree and professional title?3.What are the main factors influencing English teachers’ teaching motivation in junior high schools?The research shows that:(1)The teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers is generally strong(The average score of teaching motivation is 4.11,which is 82%of the full average score).The teaching motivation in active involvement in teaching is the strongest(the mean score is 4.31).In terms of attitude in teaching,the teaching motivation is strong(the mean score is 4.09).In terms of pressure in teaching,the teaching motivation is relatively weak(the mean score is 3.93).(2)There are significant differences in teaching motivation among junior high school English teachers of different gender,age and school type,but there are no significant differences in teaching experience,academic degree and professional title.Female English teachers in junior high school have stronger teaching motivation than male teachers;junior high school English teachers’ teaching motivation decreases with age’s growth;English teachers’ teaching motivation in key schools is higher than ordinary schools.(3)According to the problems found in the questionnaire analysis and the collation of the interview data,this study concludes that the factors influencing the teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers include work factors,personal factors,student factors,interpersonal relationship factors and teaching factors.It also finds that the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards for junior high school English teachers have a positive effect to stimulate teachers’ teaching motivation.Based on the above research,junior high school English teachers are suggested to use network information technology to stimulate their teaching motivation and embody the concept of New Curriculum Standard in the teaching process.In addition,the strategies to stimulate the teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers are summarized from three aspects: the government and relevant education departments,schools and teachers.It is hoped that this research can provide a useful reference for the study of teaching motivation of junior high school English teachers. |
