A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Texts For The City Internationalization Improvement Proiect Of Lixia District

This report is based on a project called The City Internationalization Improvement Project of Lixia District,Jinan.The project is committed to building Lixia District as a first-class,modern,and international metropolitan district which boasts a large scale,strong power,beautiful scenery,abundant wealth and interconnected facilities.The main task of the author was to do English translation of the introduction of the culture,scenic spots and springs in Lixia District in a WeChat Mini Program as well as the introduction of several international communities and then the preliminary proofreading work.The complexity and diversity of the texts in this project,and the high expectations of the client made the task harder.This report analyzes the source texts in terms of text types and linguistic features,and applies the communicative translation and semantic translation theory of Peter Newmark during the translation progress.For the objective informative texts which focus on conveying information to readers,semantic translation was adopted to reproduce the original meaning.For the reader-centered vocative texts,communicative translation was adopted to ensure that the translation achieve the same goal as the source texts.This report conducts some case studies on the problems encountered during the translation process and the corresponding solutions.In the end,this report summarizes the application range for semantic translation and communicative translation in this project.Through this report,the author hopes to reflect and summarize the difficulties and solutions encountered during the translation process so as to contribute to the smooth development of the project and the promotion of the city internalization work of Lixia District and provide reference for other translators in the same field.
