Biao Bang is a family-based documentary.The director chose a barber shop located in the urban fringe areas.The three-person family was main character of the documentary which showing the peaceful and simple daily,recording moments of their life with joys and sorrows.The director wants to show us the plain but happy life of the ordinary people in their daily life.The essay is a narrative analysis,combined with the creating process of the graduate work,form the perspective of paragraph and semiotics,then the signifier.First of all,the significance and value of the topic are explained in the introduction.In the first section,the author analyzed detailly the narrative structure based on the construction of narrative paragraphs using the Theory of Narrative Combination raised by Christian Metz.In the second section,the links between documentary and narration are comprehensively discussed based on the audiovisual semiotics from the perspective of images.In the third section,the essay explored the natural expression of emotion in the documentary,the significance in real life and the extended meaning from the image.The family in the documentary looks like the miniature of thousands common families in the society.To some extent,the characters in Biao Bang is becoming a societal symbol,representing the common life.People are suffering from all kinds of pressure with rapid social development.They are too eager to stop to catch a glimpse of good pieces of daily life.The significance of documentary has transferred the thinking in reality into signifier in semiotics,demonstrating daily life of many ordinary families.
