Tourism Constraints Of International Students In China:A Cross-cultural Comparison

This research aims to study the tourism constraints of international students in China and discuss which of the constraints are affected by their cultural background and also to understand whether different factors like gender,religion,age,stay duration in China,educational background,continent and financial support of the student influence tourism constraints.This research combines a literature study,a quantitative study,and a qualitative study.An informal interview(n=17)went through the coding method which helped to construct a questionnaire for the pilot test survey(n=57).Reliability analysis and validity analysis of the data was conducted to know the reliability and validity of the items in the questionnaire.Based on the result,another questionnaire was made after excluding items from the tourism constraints scale,formal survey(n=239)was carried on to know the results.Results of the factor analysis for tourism constraints show the four dimensions of the tourism constraints:intrapersonal constraints with self,intrapersonal constraint with China,interpersonal constraints,and structural tourism constraints.Additionally,there is a significant difference in tourism constraints in terms of age and financial support and there is no significant difference in tourism constraints in terms of gender,religion,and continent.Moreover,there is a significant relationship between dimensions of cultural background and dimensions of tourism constraints.Cultural dimension(cd4)"advice" has a significant relationship with tourism dimension(td11)"intrapersonal constraints with self" and(td12)"intrapersonal constraint with China,and cultural dimension(cd3)"responsibility" has a significant relationship with(td2)"interpersonal tourism constraint".
