Animation films have always been popular with audiences,and many foreign-language animation films have flooded into China.However,it can be found that there is very limited research on Chinese animation film subtitle translation.From the perspective of readers,that is the audience,my thesis studies the subtitle translation method of Chinese animation films by using the Reader’s Response Theory proposed by Nida,and hopefuly my study can help promote domestic animation films to“going global”.This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one introduces the background,the importance and the aim of the research.Chapter two is about the literature review.Through the literature review,it can be found that the western research on film subtitle translation starts earlier and the research results are relatively rich.In China,the study of film subtitle translation,especially that of animation films,needs to be further strengthened.Chapter three introduces the Reader’s Response Theory.This part mainly introduces the theory from three aspects,including its development,content and reflection,providing theoretical guidance for the following research.Chapter four analyzes the case of the Chinese animation film Monkey King:Hero Is Back.The film is one of the most outstanding animation films in China in recent years.It tells the story of the Monkey King and Jiang Liu’er.This part studies the subtitle translation of the film from three aspects:vocabulary,language style and content.At the same time,a comparative study of the two versions is carried out to explore the macro methods for successful translation of animation film subtitles.Chapter five summarizes the whole thesis.This part puts forward the innovation of the thesis.At the same time,it also reflects the limitations and research prospects of the thesis.Through the research,my thesis finds that when translating the subtitles of domestic animation films,we should first make clear the needs of the audience,adopt the words that suitable for them,and avoid the rude words.Secondly,we should keep the language style of the translation and that of the film consistent.Finally,in order to make foreign audience has the same response as Chinese audiences,we should pay attention to the consistency between the subtitle translation and the original film,and ensure the integrity of the plot of the animation films.These three macro translation methods and principles can be applied to animation film subtitle translation work in the future. |
