| Currently,as the gaming industry thrives, game translation has shown great market potential.Whether the game localization can make it often determines whether the game can gain popularity among users, and in the end realize its commercial value as expected.Based on a case study of the author’s experience in the translation work of Romancing Saga of Beauty and Devil,a role-playing mobile game, this paper firstly provides the background to the translation project in question.Secondly, the author summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation process:plenty of culturally-loaded words;translation of different styles of game text;and fragmentation of information in different scenarios. Then, the author proposes accordingly translation strategies. As for translation of culturally-loaded words, strategies of literal translation, explaining with clarity, and omitting if necessary can be adopted in term translation;when it comes to cultural default, translators can retain cultural images, convey cultural connotations by using similar expressions in English;and explicate the implied information in the source text.As for different styles of source texts, spoken style for dialogues among players can be dealt with by adjusting sentences and expressions into a more spoken manner, combing information of the source text to avoid logical pitfalls, and rendering sentiments by getting the message of dialogues;written style for texts within the game system can be dealt with by using specific expressions to translate in a more written manner, and improving cohesion by explicating the logic of run-on sentences in the source text.In terms of fragmentation of information in different scenarios, lexical cohesion should be adopted to render the dialogue translation more understandable. |
