| This paper investigates the phenomenon of self-revision in Chinese-Spanish consecutive interpreting. In order to approach self-revision mechanisms in interpreting from language A to B,the paper reviews the studies on self-revision both in L2 acquisition and in interpreting.A case analysis is made on the mock conference of“22ndGeneral Assembly of the United Nations Tourism Organization 2018”,focusing on the author’s performance in her Chinese-Spanish interpreting for the conference. The paper analyzes the transcripts of the interpretation and identifies different types of self-revision occurring in the case. The research findings suggest that the main reasons for the frequent occurrences of self-revision are as follows:lack of legibility in the notes, incomplete notes due to improper effort distribution, limited proficiency in Spanish and an excessive attempt to gain fluency.Furthermore, the occurrence of self-revision in interpreting tends lead anxiety and consequently a higher frequency of self-revision during the work.In order to reduce the frequency of self-revision,several interpreting strategies are put forward:enhancing the legibility of notes, maintaining the intactness of information with proper effort distribution, improving L2 proficiency such as internalization of grammatical rules and language chunks as well as flexibility in expression, and moderating the speech pace in the production. |
