Preview before English class refers to students are interested and take the initiative to study in advance and learn autonomously about the English subject contents to be taught.This is a kind of pre-learning behavior with a clear purpose,and it is a concrete manifestation of autonomous learning.Preview before English class is very important in the process of learning English,but in reality,the author finds that many students have not developed the habit of preview.Although there are also many scholars who have studied preview,they mainly focus on the theoretical level,and the investigation and research on the current situation of junior high school students’ preview are not so many.Therefore,the aim of the research is to investigate the overall situation of preview in junior high school students in Beihai city,the current situation of preview in different genders and different achievers,providing some suggestions.Based on autonomous learning theory and metacognitive strategies theory,this research is based on questionnaire surveys and supplemented by interview.303 middle school students from Beihai Middle School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University,No.8 Middle School and No.6 Middle School were the research objects.The questionnaire was changed from Gu Wei’s(2014)questionnaire.The research focuses on the following three questions:(1)What is the overall situation of junior high school students’ preview before English class?(2)Are there any differences between male students and female students in terms of preview before English class in junior high school? If so,what are the differences?(3)Are there any differences between students at different levels in terms of preview before English class in junior high school? If so,what are the differences? Finally,SPSS was used for statistical analysis of the questionnaire data.The interviewees were 5 students randomly selected.It aims to supplement questions not covered by the questionnaire and make the results more scientific.From quantitative and qualitative analysis of the collected data,this study draws the following conclusions: A.The current situation of preview before English class in junior high school is relatively good,and students can realize the relationship between preview and learning effects.And they also master some basic preview methods.However,some difficulties were encountered during students’ preview.B.Secondly,there are significant differences between female students and male students.C.There are significant differences between high score group students and low score group students.Finally,according to the research results,some suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of schools,teachers and students.For teachers,the flipped classroom teaching model should be adopted to cultivate students’ preview habits;Teachers design different preview tasks according to different genders.For students,they should plan their study time according to the preview tasks.For schools,schools need to provide teachers and students with more network resources which they need so that teachers can better train students how to use the online resources to do preview before English class. |
