Listening is an input skill in language learning,and for language learners,it is the basis of communication which provides language input to learners and plays a significant role in the acquisition of a second language.With the new reform of college entrance examination,the requirements for English listening are getting higher.At present,although most teachers have realized the importance of listening,however,the traditional teaching methods are dull and humdrum relatively,teachers failed to effectively arouse students’ interest and enthusiasm in listening learning,with the students’ previous listening foundation has not been well-laid,so that the high school students’ listening level is still relatively weak.Therefore,through teaching experiments,this thesis will try to apply relevance theory to English listening teaching in senior high school,and actively explore whether high school English listening teaching based on the guidance of relevance theory can effectively change the current situation of students’ listening weakness,improve students’ listening performance and listening ability.In this experiment,the research subjects are two classes’ students in Grade One in Guiyang senior high school.An 18-week experiment was carried out on 101 students in Grade One class(12)and class(13).The author uses the methods of pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview,and apply SPSS software to analyze the data results,focusing on English listening teaching under the guidance of relevance theory in senior high school.Before the experiment,the two classed both participated in the pre-test and pre-questionnaire,and the results show that the listening level is basically same in two classes,then the two classes were divided into experimental class and control class randomly,and relevance theory was conducted in the experimental class to guide English listening teaching,and the control class continued using the traditional English listening teaching method.After the experiment,both two classes participate in post-test,and the experimental class was carried out post-questionnaires and interviews.Judging from the results of the teaching experiment,compared with the traditional listening teaching model,English listening teaching is more effective in improving students’ listening performance with the guidance of relevance theory in senior high school.Therefore,according to the experimental results,we can draw the following conclusions,compared with traditional English teaching methods,English listening teaching methods in senior high school based on relevance theory can improve students’ listening interest,enhance students’ listening performance and listening ability more effectively.In addition,the new teaching model can change the previous humdrum teaching model,promote the efficiency of English listening teaching,and provide a theoretical basis and practical reference for high school English listening teaching under the standard concept of new curriculum.
