Contrast Study On Semantic Aggregation Network Of Kinship Terms In English And Chinese

Kinship terms,as a linguistic phenomenon that marks a common interpersonal relationship in human social relations,are common in world languages.It is an indispensable part in people’s daily life.Different cultural backgrounds could determine different languages.It is beneficial for us to get familiar with history and culture from different nation by comparing kinship terms in different in different languages.The study of address terms has become more and more important because the world is getting smaller and smaller.All languages correspondingly have kinship terms systems to express the relationship between family members.English and Chinese also have their own unique kinship terms systems,but only a few of them have the same semantic dimensions.On the basis of previous studies,this paper,from the semantic dimension of kinship terms,constructs a semantic network by using comparative linguistics.In the meanwhile,it analyzes the differences between English and Chinese in kinship terms and tries to find out the reasons for the similarities and differences between the two languages.All of these things have been done to hope to provide some help for the current semantic development and Chinese teaching for foreign language learners.This paper studies the meaning of kinship terms in English and Chinese from four aspects.Firstly,it will introduce the related concepts,research status,research significance and methods.Secondly,it sorts out Chinese and English kinship terms respectively.Then it will analyze their semantic composition,constructs a semantic network,classifies them according to the characteristics of the two languages themselves,and points out their characteristics.By analyzing the semantic networks of the two,this paper further makes a comparative analysis of Chinese and English kinship terms to points out their similarities and differences from various angles.So the differences between Chinese and English kinship terms from the deep culture will come out.Finally,the research results of this paper are summarized and the limitations of the research are put forward.
