Xiao Jun is an important writer in China in the 20 th century,Throughout his desolate and tragic life,he was a revolutionary assaulter and a pioneer of enlightenment. In the background of the turbulent country and the dark society,he was deeply influenced by the spirit of the May 4th Enlightenment. His article was combined with the spirit of the times, and he took on a certain mission and responsibility with his pen as a weapon. On the other hand,he also strived to maintain his independent personality and free thinking in literary creation to adhere to the independence of literature and art.Xiao Jun has always adhered to the position of intellectuals in The Third Generation and has developed it on the basis of inheriting the spirit of the May 4th Enlightenment. The novel profoundly depicts the people from rural areas and cities in Northeast China living in misery from the Revolution of 1911 to the beginning of the First World War,but still hope for life, and the strong resistance and revenge sentiment against oppression.Analyzing the novel,we can see that Xiao Jun tried to tap the historical origins of the spirit of resistance of the people in Northeast China.Behind the different choices of the road of resistance, the process of self-awakening of the people of Northeast China was presented. This is Xiao Jun’s objective response to the political discourse of Yan’an on the basis of returning to the spirit of the May 4th Enlightenment after experiencing the invasion of the times and the constraints of literary and artistic policies. This return and response shows Xiao Jun’s persistent pursuit of the liberation of "people" as an intellectual and his commitment to the times and the nation. This paper takes the enlightenment spirit of Xiao Jun’s novel The Third Generation as the research object, and divided into three chapters. The first chapter explains Xiao Jun’s unique liberal personality and legendary life experience, and the novel creation which under this influence to analyze the reason for the formation of the thought of The Third Generation and how it has gone through the concrete expression of it in literary works. The second chapter expounds the enlightenment spirit writing of The Third Generation from the historical context of the work.On the basis of inheriting the May 4th spirit, the author also injected his understanding and development of revolutionary enlightenment,in the process,he was trying to dig northeast people’s long awakening process and the author’s confidence in the inevitable victory of the people’s revolutionary struggle. The third chapter mainly analyzes Xiao Jun’s insistence on intellectual positions expressed in the increasingly tense Yan’an literary and artistic policy, and completes a certain degree of thought change in the literary and artistic atmosphere in which intellectuals collectively "turn".This change is reflected in The Third Generation as the author reflects the historical reality of the Northeast people’s efforts to resist oppression in the layout of time and space, but on the other hand, people in obscurity have not seen the feudal tradition and imperialist oppression. The nature of the people led their resistance to failure.
