In recent years,interpersonal pragmatics has developed rapidly in foreign academic circles,and has gradually become a new trend in the field of pragmatics research.Interpersonal relationship is the core issue of interpersonal pragmatics,focusing on the management of interpersonal relationships between communicating parties.Among them,Spencer-Oatey’s rapport management theory is deeply discussed.The rapport management theory stems from the study of politeness in communication,and is the latest development of pragmatic language output.This theory goes beyond the study of face and politeness and explains how people manage the social relations of both parties in speech communication from the perspective of language output.This present study chooses two real business financing programs in China and American,and selects the interactive discourse of the financing parties as the research object.A total of 100 groups of interactive discourse are collected and rewritten as the research corpus.Based on the rapport management theory under interpersonal pragmatics,a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is used to answer the following three questions:(1)What kinds of interpersonal relationships did the financing parties build in the financing process?(2)How did the financing parties build and manage their interpersonal relationships,and what pragmatic strategies did they use?(3)What are the differences between the Chinese and American financing parties in constructing interpersonal relationships,and what are the reasons for the differences?Through research,the present study finds that in the process of communication between the Chinese and American financing parties,five types of interpersonal relationships have been constructed.They are Dominant-affilative relationship,cooperative relationship,non-cooperative relationship,competitive relationship,and conflict relationship.The Chinese and American financing parties mainly build interpersonal relationships by managing the following three aspects: managing face,managing social rights,and managing interactional goals.(1)When managing face,the strategies used by both financing parties are: request,explanation,interrupt and insert;(2)When managing social rights,the strategies are: identity construction,frequent ask questions and suggestions;(3)When managing interactional goals,the strategies used are: conditional sentences,compromises,and comparisons;In addition,due to differences in power,distance,and face between the Chinese and American financing parties,there are also differences when using pragmatic strategies to build interpersonal relationships.This article will carefully explain these differences and analyze the reasons behind them.This paper will carefully explain these differences and analyze the reasons.The financial parties uses different types of rapport management strategies to enhance or threaten the face or social rights,which in turn affects the direction of interpersonal relationships.In short,the study of the interactive discourse between Chinese and American financing parties has broadened the research field and direction of interpersonal relationships,which is beneficial for both financing parties to construct good interpersonal relationships through appropriate interpersonal relationship management strategies,and thus achieve the ideal communicative effect.
