In this paper, forty doctoral dissertations published over the last four decades on the study of the early period of ancient Chinese literature and history, which collected from ten universities in North America, such as Harvard University,Princeton University,University of Pennsylvania,Yale University and Columbia University, etc.,are taken as the research objects to explore the situation of the study in North America during this period, and to sort out the development of the research paradigm of Sinology in North America. The introduction briefly introduces the background and the research methods employed in this paper. The first chapter discusses the achievements of the study of history and culture in the early period of ancient China in North America, which is divided into two parts: the study of political history and the study of cultural history. The second chapter summarizes the recent literature research in North America from four aspects: writer research, style research, literature history research and the application of various research perspectives. The third chapter summarizes the evolution of Sinology research paradigm in North America over the last four decades.First, the influence of genealogy on Sinology research paradigm in North America is discussed.Secondly,it pays attention to the "two sides" of Sinology in North America. On the one hand, the Sinology circle in North America actively interacts with the academic circle in China’s mainland on the basis of literature study;on the other hand,it must respond to the change of research paradigm in the mainstream of the academic circle in North America. In the 1980s,the rise of New Historicism and new cultural history had a profound impact on the evolution of Sinology research paradigm in North America.
