Shi Lu is an outstanding artist in the 20 th century, who has made great contributions in artistic creation and theory and left behind a large number of unique works of art.He accelerated the evolving pace of Chinese painting from tradition to modernity, and had a strong impact on contemporary painters while profoundly impacting later generations. This paper takes Shilu’s view of "things are the foundation of painting,I am the spirit of painting" as its clue to explore Shilu’s performance and sublimation of "view of things and self" in the special historical period. The article is composed of five parts, among which the first part mainly studies his "view of things and self" formed by the influence of Chinese painting theory and Marxism thought. The second part contains the analysis of the dialectical relationship between things and self, the understanding of the relationship between inheritance and innovation and the transformation process of Shilu’s artistic consciousness, and explorations of the establishment of Shilu’s "view of things and self".The third part is the reflection in Shilu’s works after the formation of his concept, which can be represented by the revolutionary passion in his work "Turning to Northern Shaanxi",the wild, strange, chaotic and dark artistic features in his works in the period of "Dongdu",his humanistic spirit in Huashan landscape series and the metaphysical view of freehand brushwork. The fourth part introducts the influence of "Shilu phenomenon" on the Chang’an School and the history of art development. The last part is about the current significance of Shilu’s "view of things and self" and its foresight to the future. This paper focuses on the Shilu’s specific explination of form and spirit in his practice— "things are the foundation of painting,I am the spirit of painting".He had achieved the dialectical unity of things and me,spirit of substance and spirit of self, and finally realized the transcendence of things and me and sublimating art to the great status of me and spirit. |
