| The translation material of this E-C practice report is excerpted from the economic book Employers’ Economics versus Employees’ Economy published in 2017.Through the analysis in the aspects of lexical,syntactic and textual levels,the translator summarizes several source-text features as follows: in the lexical level,terminologies in scientific fields such as economics and mathematics appear many times in the source text as well as the phenomenon of polysemy,and there are also some representative idioms cited in the source text;In the syntactic level,there are various types of sentence pattern including elliptical,emphatic and inverted sentence structures in the source text and there are also many long difficult sentences;In the textual level,the source text owns the characteristic of preciseness of economic texts and vitality while rhetorical skills are applied.The translator uses Eugene A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the guidance of this translation task,making good use of different levels of meaning and form.Based on the consideration of linguistics and culture,the translator applies literal/free translation and foreignization/domestication properly as translation strategies.Finally,after self-review,the translator invites a classmate majoring in economics to review again making sure of the specialization of the target text and invites the supervisor as well to guarantee the quality of the target text.This practice report describes key and important points as well as their solutions in the translation process in detail which has certain referential significance for the translation of economic texts in the future. |
