The effect of testing on teaching and learning is called “washback”.In order to maintain the vitality of an examination,we need to constantly improve it,keep up with the development of new ideas in linguistics and language teaching,constantly explore new types of questions,and improve the reliability and validity of the examination.With the advent of the digital era,in April 2018,China put forward the 2.0 plan of educational informatization,that is,to promote the concrete implementation plan of “Internet + education”.Due to the popularity of digital resource services and the large coverage of network space,various network learning and testing come into being.“Man-machine interaction” test is a product of intelligent age.Students can take listening and speaking tests through mobile devices,and their scores are also given by them.In 2019,Gansu Province announced that Lanzhou will be the first pilot of the reform of the senior high school entrance examination,adding the “man-machine interaction” test to the 2021 candidates.This test has aroused great social attention,which will inevitably have impact on teaching and learning English in junior middle school,that is,the washback.According to the literature search,the previous research on washback of this test is still blank.Lanzhou,as the first pilot of the reform of the examination,has a crucial influence on the direction of the reform of the examination and the introduction of the examination mode in other cities.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the washback of “man-machine interaction” test on English teaching and learning.The main purpose of this study is to answer the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of “man-machine interaction” test?(2)What kind of washback does the “man-machine interaction” test bring to English learning?(3)What kind of washback does the “man-machine interaction” test bring to English teaching? This study uses questionnaire and interview methods to collect effective data and use SPSS25.0 to analyze and process the data,which confirms that “man-machine interaction” test will bring washback to English teaching and learning and draws the following conclusions: At first,there’re some factors(practice time,gender,school,etc.)influence students’ performance of “man-machine interaction” test and there’re still many difficulties and challenges in daily teaching for teachers.Besides,students and teachers have a high recognition of “man-machine interaction” test,but their familiarity of it is poor.Second,the “man-machine interaction” test has more positive washback on English learning.Students think that the “man-machine interaction” test helps them improve their listening and speaking ability.Third,the “man-machine interaction” test has more positive washback on English teaching.Teachers believe that the “man-machine interaction” test helps them improve their teaching level and teaching content,enhance their listening and speaking skills and information technology capabilities.The implications of this study are: first of all,students should adhere to listening and speaking practice,skillfully use apps to learn;establish confidence and speak English boldly.Secondly,teachers should arrange listening and speaking classes properly;organize English related activities to attract students to participate actively;use tests to guide learning and determine teaching by learning.Finally,schools should increase investment in hardware facilities and organize teachers training;parents should supervise students’ learning at home and actively establish contact between home and school.
