Cultural Memory And Local Narrating:The Legends Of King Gesar And Archery Festival In Deqin

Deqin County,Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture,Yunnan Province,borders on the Jinsha River in the southeast of Derong County,Sichuan Province,southwestern border with the Weixi Lisu Autonomous County in Diqing Prefecture,and northwestern with Mangkang County in the Tibet Autonomous Region.Historically,it is an important connecting area between the ancient tea horse road of Yunnan and Tibet and the main road of Yunnan and Sichuan,which is also a cultural intersection area where many ethnic groups live together,including Tibet,Lisu,Naxi,Han,Bai,Yi and Pumi.From ancient times,Deqin Tibetan not only performed and narrated the heroic Epic Gesar,including Jialing Legend and Jiangling War,but also narrated the unique local legend of King Gesar and the unique archery festival of King Gesar.As one of the important sites of the cultural space of Tibetan Gesar,the legend and archery festival of King Gesar of Deqin Tibetan,regarding as an important part of the cultural system of Tibetan Gesar,store a large number of cultural memories about the King Gesar of Tibetan.King Gesar has become a symbol of ethnic identity of Tibetan people living in Deqin,which is of great significance.There is a lot of academic research on the Tibetan heroic Epic Gesar.Based on the previous studies,this paper mainly collects the legends about Gesar king of Deqin Tibetan,such as the legend of Feilai temple,kawagbo snow peak,Xiangwan ’ s reposing emotion on locust trees,magic horses and bow and arrow,as well as investigates the folk activities of the archery festival of King Gesar of Tibet.With the reference of memory theory,the author deeply describes the legend and narration of King Gesar,writes and explains the body narration of the archery festival of King Gesar,and fully excavates the cultural memory contained in the legend narration and the exhibition of the festival ceremony.On the basis of the comparison of intertextuality with the text of Epic Gesar,this paper analyzes and summarizes the rules of cultural memory of Gesar king of Deqin Tibetan,and considers the researchparadigm of folk narrative of Gesar king of Deqin Tibetan.This paper consists of four chapters,the first part describes the habitat space of the legend of King Gesar of Deqin Tibetan in Yunnan;the second part summarizes the multiple images of King Gesar,the hero of Tibetan epic;the third part is one of the main contents of this paper,presenting the collected legend of King Gesar of Qin and Tibetan and also mining its cultural memory;the fourth part is also one of the main contents of this paper,which explains King Gesar archery Festival and its cultural memory.The last part is the conclusion that mainly includes summary and theoretical thinking.The local narratives of Feilai temple,kawagbo snow peak,Xiangwan’s reposing emotion on locust trees,magic horses and bow and arrow construct an experience space and boundary of Tibetan life in Deqin,and promote the local space and status of Deqin with a unique sense of place in the ethnic cultural context of Tibetan god mountain worship,Tibetan Buddhism and King Saar’s worship.The local narrative of King Gesar is the historical interaction practice of competition and cooperation between the Deqin Tibetans,the ancestors of King Gesar’s heroes,and other ethnic groups.In the process of historical interaction practice,the cultural resources and ethnic symbols that can be continuously drawn and utilized to gather the ethnic common community internally and build the interethnic cultural boundary externally.The memory of King Gesar of Deqin Tibetan runs in a dual-track system of communication memory and cultural memory.Influenced by the dual-track system,local elites and ordinary people store and reproduce the memory of King Gesar interactively from their respective perspectives,with the ultimate goal of self-identification of Deqin Tibetans.This paper attempts to investigate and study the "main body life series folklore Chronicle",focusing on a local narrative while taking the local narrative memory of the main body folklore life as a series to study how and why the main body remembers and reproduces through the local narrative,so as to realize the ethnic identity and local integration through the inheritance of traditional culture,which can be a new paradigm of current folklore research.
