The report was based on the English-Chinese translation practice of three sections of“Words between Women”,the fourth chapter of Jane Dawson’s monograph Carol Ann Duffy: Poet for Our Times.The translation text was entrusted by Shandong Province Social Science Project “Political Writing in Duffy’s Poetry”.There is currently no Chinese translation for the source text.The source text briefly introduces the feminist poems created by Carol Ann Duffy in the form of dramatic monologue poetry.Under the guidance of Feminist Translation Theory,the translator analyzes the application of translation strategies on lexical and syntactic levels in the process of translation.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter briefly introduces the background of the task and the source text.The second chapter is a description of the translation process,including preparation before translation,problems in translation process,and post-translation proofreading and Assessment.The third chapter is the theoretical framework,which elaborates the Feminist Translation Theory and its application in translation.And the fourth chapter,also the pillar chapter,analyzes cases of translation strategies such as supplementing,hijacking,highlighting the translation’s dominant position,emphasizing political act of translation,negating the unity of the original meaning and eliminating gender discrimination from lexical and syntactic level respectively under the guidance of the Feminist Translation Theory.The last chapter is summary,which wraps up the shortcomings of this translation report.The translator hopes this report may enrich domestic scholars’ understanding of the poet Duffy and her works and offer some help for other translators who might encounter similar translation text. |
