This translation practice report is a review of study based on the translation of Chapter 4-Customer Service with a Smile:Creating a Climate Where Customers Come First(《微笑服务:营造客户至上的氛围》)of Workplace Communication for the 21st Century,Volume 2:External Workplace Communication(《21世纪职场沟通——第二卷:职场外部沟通》).The original text is selected from a professional book in the field of corporate communication.Meanwhile,it is a pragmatic text with the concise,authentic and objective language styles.Moreover,the logic is strong in complex sentences,the types of cohesion devices are various,and the terms and passive voice structures are commonly used in the text.This report describes the procedures of translation practice,including pre-translating preparation,problems solved during translating,and revision and polishing.The translator analyzes the original text based on the Text Typology indicated by Peter Newmark.Under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation,the translator adopts different translation methods to solve the problems of terminology translation,proper nouns translation,sentence translation and textual translation.In addition,the relevant typical cases are analyzed.By reviewing and summarizing the translation practice process,the translator sums up the translation methods and skills applied in the pragmatic text of the corporate communication field,which may provide references for the translation of other pragmatic texts in the future.
