| The translation report is based on translation practice. The source text was from a project of Beijing Zhongzhi Innovation Technology Co.Ltd in May 2018.At present, the Chinese version is not yet to be found. The translator chose chapter 9 to translate. This chapter describes the whole process of the fracturing operations.Fracturing refers to the method of artificially causing stratum fractures by hydraulic action in the oil field. It plays a very important role in tapping the production of oil wells. After fracturing, the production of a single well can be increased by about 3 times. The translation of the source text will help domestic petroleum engineers get access to the latest approaches for fracturing to meet challenges of energy, and at the same time, help to promote the exploration and production of oil in China.Oil text belongs to technical texts, which focus on transmitting the information.Compared with form, translation of oil text pays more attention to the expression of meaning.Catford’s theory is based on the principle of equivalence in form and focuses on semantic equivalence, which exactly conforms to the principle of "content is more important than form" in the translation of technical texts. This report will discuss how to apply Catford’s translation shift theory to translate the oil text.Through the translation guide by Catford’s translation shift theory, the translator has acquired some translation strategies of oil texts from the aspects of part of speech, grammatical unit and language structure. |
