| This is a translation report on Chapter 7 to Chapter 10 of Nanaville: Adventures in Grandparenting,written by Anna Quindlen,consisting of 11 thousand words.This book is a prose collection about author’s family life,which introduced author’s new born grandson,Arthur.Author’s life has a great change since Arthur’s born,which makes the author revised herself.In the selected chapters,the author proposed her opinion on the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law,cross-racial marriage and grandmother’s identity.This book expresses feelings well and its style is exquisite.The translator was impressed by author’s affection to her families and the interesting anecdotes between them,hoping that through the trial reading of the target texts,readers could have a better understanding about the notion of family so that to improve family harmony.This English to Chinese translation practice report consists of four parts.Chapter one is a brief introduction to the translation report,including its background,significance,objectives and organization.Chapter two is about the pre-translation preparations,including text analysis,main tools and resources as well as guiding theory.Then the main part,guided by Dan Sperber & Deirdre Wilson’s relevance theory,provides the analysis of the translation of some typical key and difficult language points met during the translation of this book so as to illustrate the application of translation methods,such as literal translation and combination.The last part concludes the translation report,comprising of the gained experiences and suggestions for translation of literature text. |
