The Buddhist art performance in Dunhuang Grottoes provides a rich supply for understanding and studying the material civilization of Chinese Buddhism.In this paper,under the continuous vision of the development of Buddhist history and art,on the basis of combing the ancient Indian monk group costume,the ancient Indian kushan Empire and the western region of Xinjiang,the author focuses on the research and verification of the origin and development of the Buddha’s clothes and the monk’s clothes in the Dunhuang Grottoes in the northern Liang and Northern Dynasties.This paper takes the statues of Buddha and disciples in Dunhuang Grottoes and frescoes as the main research objects,and analyzes the types,relations and changes of the costumes of Buddha and disciples in different periods of northern Dunhuang Dynasty,and further expounds the application mode and ideological connotation of the costumes of Buddhism by combining the fingerprint,posture,function and Buddhist image system.At the same time,with the prosperity of the Silk Road and the change of regime in the Northern Dynasty,the interaction of western regions,northern minorities,Han and other multi cultures has created the unique art appearance of Buddhist costume in Dunhuang area,which has an indispensable significance in the historical evolution process of Chinese Buddhism.
