The research and English translation of intangible cultural heritage(ICH)is of great significance for promoting the communication among different ethnic groups and protecting cultural diversity.Beijing Intangible Cultural Heritage Atlas summarizes and displays nearly 300 ICH projects with exquisite design, which is an excellent material for promoting intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, the author takes 12,000 words extracted from the book as an example to translate them into English.Through the author’s translation practice and reference to relevant literature, this paper analyzes diversified translation strategies of culture-loaded words in ICH text with the guidance of functional equivalence theory, and puts forward some basic ideas and experience for the future research on translation of culture-loaded words. The theory of functional equivalence takes reader’s response as the core and emphasizes content over form.Except for this,Nida puts functional equivalence into four levels: phonetic, lexical, syntactic levels as well as discourse. The translation of cultureloaded words requires the clear transmission of cultural information, and appropriate rules should be adopted in the translation based on the theoretical basis of formal equivalence and functional equivalence. The paper is composed of five chapters. As the introduction part, the first chapter gives a general description of the research background, significance, objectives and methods of the paper respectively;the second chapter goes to the literature review, which presents the research status of ICH and culture-loaded words in the form of charts through the investigation and search of relevant literature;chapter three is the overview of functional equivalence theory, which systematically combs the development from formal equivalence, dynamic equivalence to functional equivalence.Furthermore, the basic connotation of functional equivalence theory is introduced in detail in that process, which forms the theoretical basis of the paper;the fourth chapter is the case study,in view of functional equivalence theory,it analyzes diversified translation strategies of different sorts of culture-loaded words in ICH texts;the fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the content, shortcomings and prospects for future research.
