Study On The Elephant Head God ——The Origin Of Brahmanism And Its Changes In China

This article takes the Indian Brahmanism elephant head god as the starting point,and involves many art history issues such as the origin,image and function of this god.This article focuses on the image change process of the elephant head god from India to China,and the meaning and function of this image in Brahmanism,Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism.Due to the influence of different regions and cultures,the mark,attribute and meaning of the image of Elephant Head God have also changed,which is the focus of this article.Based on the Han scripture documents and newly discovered archaeological data in recent years,this paper analyzes the variation and combination of different image types and markers of the deity,and then gives a new explanation of the different positions and characteristics of the deity in different religious contexts.
