Exploring The Role Of Traces In Contemporary Fiber Art Creation

This essay focuses on the "traces" in contemporary fiber art works,and studies the role of "traces" in fiber art creation from various perspectives through artists’ works.From the expressions of fiber art works with "traces",we can find the dynamic aesthetic and rich meanings of "traces".This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter focuses on the "traces" which produced by the transformation of material language in the passage of time,including the use of fire,water,and action,this kind of“traces” can be seen really directly.The second chapter mainly shows the "traces" can represent memory,and artists can use technology to transfer personal consciousness to “traces”.In the third chapter,through the creation of fiber art works based on the story of Penelope and the creation of Ann Hamilton,we can see that "traces" can also be used as a metaphor and symbol,which is the essential clue to understand the works,it can combine with the fabric,and lead the audiences to find the way.Based on the former chapters,the last chapter summarizes the expression of "traces" in fiber art creation,inspiration for personal creation and puts forward how to define the role of "traces" in personal creation.
