Hoard Buddhist statues in Longxing Temple of Qingzhou have always been an important focus of the art circles. These statues are not only numerous and fine carved, but also show some unique styles which are different from other statues of the same period. There are many studies on these styles. But the reasons caused these styles and the enlightenment given to contemporary Chinese Buddhist paintings are rarely mentioned.Based on the existing research, this article compares the Qingzhou style with the painting style of the famous painter Cao Zhongda during the same period, and finds that the source and development of the two are consistent. They are both influenced by the Indian Gupta style and evolved in the Southern Dynasty. And the clothing in Cao Zhongda’ s paintings cling fast to bodies as if just emerged from water, which are the same to Qingzhou style. All these indicate that the image analysis of the Buddha statues unearthed at Longxing Temple in Qingzhou can bring new inspiration and promotion to Chinese Buddhist painting. After research, the styles represented by the Buddhist statues of Longxing Temple and the Caoesque are popular in the Qingzhou region in the late Northern Dynasty, which are collectively known as Qingzhou School. And this style is widely used in sculpture and painting."Qingzhou School"has important reference for the creation of Chinese paintings today. It can help to reproduce the painting style which is popular in Qingzhou area in the late Northern Dynasty, and enrich the ways to depict face, body and details of Chinese Buddhist painting. |
