"Silhouette" In Sculpture

The emphasis on "image" has been a cultural tradition in China since ancient times.From the evolution of abstracting images from viewing,shadows from images and shapes from shadows,it can be seen that artists trend to deal with art form by "silhouette" symbol,creating artistic works with both form and spirit,as well as the unity of objects and self,so as to infuse the soul into the artistic image.The "silhouette" in the sculpture studied involving in this thesis is a full image with rich emotions and deep feelings created by means of modeling rather than the only silhouette outline of objective things and the projection shape of the sculpture itself;Silhouette,without the performance of detail and texture,more often reflects the objective image through the shadow;What it shows is the simplification of concrete image,and it is people’s inner image of the objective object.Generally speaking,"silhouette" refines the objective image and sublimates it on this basis,which makes it closer to the essence of the objective image.The experience of "silhouette" is applied and presented in the practice of sculpture.The emphasis on the use of "silhouette" in sculpture is conducive to explore the charm of the expression of sculpture and stimulate the vitality of artistic creation.From the use of "silhouette" thinking in the author’s own creation to the summary of practical experience of sculpture presentation,the author summarizes the experience of "silhouette" of the objective object from the perspective of sculpture creation practice.It hopes to contribute to future artistic creation and presentation by offering more valuable angles.
