On The English Translation Of Expressions With Chinese Characteristics In Xi Jinping:the Governance Of China From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

China is ushering in a period of historical opportunities to reshape its image and enhance its international voice.As China’s influence on the world is more comprehensive and profound,all countries in the world have paid extensive and profound attention to China.In response to the widespread concern around the world,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China talks about China and the world,opening a window for readers of all countries to observe and perceive China.Since its publication in 2014,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China has received extensive attention at home and abroad.It has been translated into 21 languages in 24 editions,and distributed to more than 100 countries and regions in the world,with a circulation exceeding 6.25 million copies.Xi Jinping: The Governance of China an important book for foreign readers to know China well.It is an authoritative political document to display the concept and strategy of governing the new central collective leadership of the Communist Party of China,and undoubtedly of great research value.As a political document published by the government,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China shows some new ideas,new views,and new assertions in Chinese political construction.Some of the expressions with Chinese characteristics have also attracted the attention of the translator.These expressions with Chinese characteristics are also important carriers of Chinese culture.The translation quality of these expressions with Chinese characteristics is directly related to the understanding of Chinese policies and concepts of the international community,as well as the promotion of China’s publicity level and international status,and the shaping of international image.This study focuses on expressions with Chinese characteristics in two volumes of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the perspective of functional equivalence.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory,this study tries to summarize the method and technique of English translation of expression with Chinese characteristics in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,and to see if the translation has achieved good effect according the requirements of functional equivalence.This study is expected to provide reference for the English translation practice of expression with Chinese characteristic in political document and hopes to prove the feasibility of the application of functional equivalence theory in political documents.
