| Oral language is one of the most important forms of communication and interaction,as well as one of the most important language skills.However,there are still some problems in oral English teaching in primary schools,such as too large class size,the single teaching method and unsatisfactory teaching effect.Therefore,how to improve students’ oral ability has become a concern of language teachers.Scaffolding instruction is based on constructivism,based on students’ immediate development zone,and has achieved remarkable results in the existing teaching practice.In order to explore the impact of Scaffolding Instruction on oral English of upper students in rural primary schools,this study took a rural primary school in Z city,Jiangsu province,as an experimental school and two parallel classes of students in grade six as the research object.The designed five-step teaching method is applied to the eight-week teaching experiment.Through questionnaires,interviews and tests,this paper discusses the influence of Scaffolding Instruction on the emotion,activity performance and oral English ability of upper students in rural primary schools.The specific research questions are: 1)How does the Scaffolding Instruction influence the emotion of upper students in rural primary schools;2)How does the Scaffolding Instruction influence the activity performance of upper students in rural primary schools? 3)How does the Scaffolding Instruction influence the oral English ability of upper students in rural primary schools?Through the exploration of the three questions above,the following conclusions are drawn:1)The Scaffolding Instruction,compared with the traditional oral English teaching methods,can improve students’ emotion towards oral English,with the greatest positive influence on attitude,the second on motivation and confidence,and the last on anxiety;2)The Scaffolding Instruction can improve students’ activity performance of oral English.In addition,the influence on the students’ imitation ability is the largest,the influence on the students’ reading and answering questions is the second,and the influence on the students’ communication ability is the least;3)The Scaffolding Instruction can improve students’ oral English ability.What’s more,the influence on students’ language expression ability is the largest,the influence on students’ emotion and strategy is the second,and the influence on students’ task completion is the least.This study focuses on the changes of students’ emotion,activity performance and ability in the process of oral English learning.It introduces the influence and function of Scaffolding Instruction on the three aspects,which is a trial and innovation of the oral English teaching modes in primary schools and has a guiding significance for the oral English teaching of front-line teachers. |
