Vocabulary acquisition,as an important subject in the field of second language acquisition, has received increasing attention from scholars at home and abroad.Vocabulary teaching is essential for English teaching in junior high school. In order to cultivate students’ ability of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, teachers must start with vocabulary teaching. In recent years, domestic and foreign scholars have conducted in-depth research and discussion on English vocabulary teaching from various angles and achieved some results. However,in the current junior middle school vocabulary teaching, most teachers were still used to teaching vocabulary in isolation using traditional methods. This method was not only time-consuming and inefficient, but also very ineffective. To make matters worse, this method ignored the semantic relationship between vocabularies, which prevented students from being able to flexibly apply the vocabulary they have learned. Therefore, the author attempted to use the semantic field and other theories as guidance and used sensory verbs as an example to discuss the impact of constructing English vocabulary network on vocabulary learning of middle school students and help them learn how to construct their own vocabulary network. The author took 80 students in two parallel classes in the ninth grade of Wenlan Middle School in Shaoxing City as the research object and divided them into experimental classes and control classes. The author used the vocabulary teaching method based on vocabulary network and semantic field theory in the experimental class, but still used the traditional vocabulary teaching method in the control class. The teaching experiment was conducted for one semester, aiming to study the following three questions:1.Is the teaching of sensory verbs based on the framework of lexical network more effective than the teaching in the traditional way?2.Given the lexical network of English sensory verbs, which domain is more affected by the teaching method based on lexical network? Why?3.Can vocabulary teaching methods based on vocabulary network and semantic field theory improve the depth of vocabulary knowledge of students?Through questionnaire survey,pre-test,post-test,interview and other methods, the following conclusions were finally drawn: 1.Compared with traditional vocabulary teaching methods, the method based on vocabulary network and semantic field theory is more effective for students to learn sensory verbs.2.The new method had the greatest impact on the learning of sensory verbs in the auditory domain, because it can help students distinguish synonyms better and improve their ability to use vocabulary in different contexts.3.Vocabulary teaching method based on vocabulary network and semantic field theory can improve the depth of vocabulary knowledge of students, and it is especially effective for students to learn synonyms. Therefore, this research has certain reference significance for sensory verb teaching and vocabulary teaching in junior high school, but there are also some limitations to be resolved.
