Metaphor is an advanced tool for human thinking and cognition.The development of cognitive linguistics has promoted multidimensional research on Metaphor,and gradually realized the indispensable role of metaphor in the filed of second language acquisition,and the concept of metaphorical competence was derived.Intermediate and advanced students who study Chinese is no longer satisfied with communication,they hope to gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of China’s society and culture.News is an important channel for the dissemination of Chinese society information.It not only carries authentic Chinese expressions,but also contains a wealth of modern and contemporary culture.However,because of the large number of Chinese metaphorical expressions in news text which is the biggest obstacle for those students to understand news.It requires conscious study and training of Chinese metaphorical thinking by students,and constantly cultivates metaphorical awareness,promotes metaphorical competence.A correct comprehension of news will help foreign students to quickly integrate Chinese culture,continuously improve their sense of language,and finally master authentic Chinese expressions.In this process,students will continue to expand their horizons and knowledge,at the same time they will know about the comprehensive and true Chinese society and culture.This article was divided into 5 parts.The first chapter mainly introduced the background and significance of the thesis,also introduced the research contend and method of the paper.The second chapter is the literature review,which mainly discussed the development of cognitive metaphor and metaphorical competence.The cognitive metaphor section concluded the research of traditional metaphors,conceptual metaphors and structural-mapping theory.The metaphorical competence section concluded the fruitful results of metaphorical competence both at home and aboard in recent years.This chapter provided the theoretical basis foe the next chapter.The third chapter is the collection and analysis of news text corpora.Based on the corpus of People’s Daily collected by the author,use the MIPVU method which described above to identify the metaphors in the news text,and use thesource domain of the conceptual metaphor to classify them and then describe the mechanism of each type of conceptual metaphor.The detailed description clarified the internal context of news and the relationship between conceptual metaphors and news text.The fourth chapter is based on the collection of the news corpora,from which representative metaphor expressions are selected to design a questionnaire,which focuses on the level of the metaphorical competence of those students.Based on the data analysis of the questionnaire,author concluded that the intermediate and advanced student’s overall metaphorical competence is weak,and the reason are analyzed.The chapter five based on the data analysis in the previous chapter,the author proposes relevant learning suggestions for foreign students,the suggestions is based on the aspects of accumulating conventional metaphors,strengthening the cultivation of metaphorical competence and training metaphorical expressions.The last chapter is a summary of the research and insufficiency.
